Mrs. Tatum Lee - School Counselor

Hi! My name is Mrs. Lee, and I am the school counselor here at Oakview Elementary. I have been working as a school counselor since 2022, and I truly enjoy supporting students as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

I graduated from Washington State University (WSU) in 2015 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Following my undergraduate studies, I continued my education at Walden University, where I earned my Master’s degree in School Counseling.

My educational and professional journey has provided me with a strong foundation in understanding individuals, relationships, and communities. I am passionate about creating a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment where every student feels valued, heard, and encouraged to reach their full potential.

I am excited to be part of the Oakview Elementary community and look forward to getting to know our students and families!

What Is a School Counselor?

In Washington State, school counselors are certified educators who support ALL students through a comprehensive school counseling program. According to OSPI, our work focuses on three areas:

Academic: Helping students build skills, set goals, and overcome barriers to learning.

Social-Emotional: Helping students understand emotions, build healthy relationships, develop coping skills, and solve problems.

Career & Future Planning: Helping students explore their interests, strengths, and future goals.

What a School Counselor IS:

✨ A safe and supportive person to talk to
✨ A resource for students and families
✨ Someone who provides individual check-ins, classroom lessons, and small groups
✨ A partner in helping students succeed at school
✨ Someone who can help connect families with additional community resources when needed

What a School Counselor IS NOT:

🚫 A private therapist
🚫 A provider of long-term therapy
🚫 A mental health diagnostician
🚫 A replacement for outside mental health services

Most importantly, students do not have to be in trouble or struggling to see the counselor! School counseling is for everyone. Students can visit me when they need help, want to talk, need to solve a problem, or simply need a caring adult to check in with.

My goal is to help every Oakview student feel safe, supported, valued, and ready to learn!

I look forward to partnering with our Oakview families!
